The Itch to Climb

I was in Vernon, Texas, on business yesterday. Vernon is only a little more than an hour from Quartz Mountain, OK – the best rock climbing destination for North Texans by far. While driving up in the morning, I decided that if I should wrap up by late lunch time, I would make the 2-hour side trip to Quartz to climb till sunset. Unfortunately, we didn’t wrap up till 4:30 PM. Man, it was painful. I felt the rock draw me northward across the Red River, like the pull of a big black hole. But there was just no time. So I headed back home witnessing some pretty bad grass fires on the way.
